Deacons Anthony Derick and Shantharaj were ordained priest by Archbishop Peter Macahdo on October 1. In a meaningful Eucharistic celebration held at St Joseph’s Boys High School oratory, many Jesuits, other priests and religious along with the relatives and friends of the newly ordained priests witnessed the religious ceremony.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Archbishop. In his homily, the Archbishop said, “The moment you are ordained, you are neither servants nor employees, rather collaborators of Christ in his mission.” The melodious singing by the JFCT scholastics enriched the liturgy.
While raising the toast, Fr Rony Pais SJ took all the audience through the memory lane of the lives of Frs Shantharaj and Anthony Derrick. Provincial of Karnatak province, Fr Dionysius Vaz, in his address said that the newly ordained priests have sacrificed allurements of the world, and now ‘their mission is to be in this alluring world and win many souls to Christ’. While congratulating the newly ordained priests, he thanked the parents, parish priests and all others who had played a vital role in the lives of the newly ordained priests. The fellowship meal that followed spread a family feeling in the banquet hall.
