‘Yuva Milana-2024’ held at Bembala, Nelamangala

KJES Youth, in collaboration with the Province Commission for Ecology & Justice, organized Yuva Milana, a three-day programme for youth held from November 22nd to 24th, 2024, at Bembala, Nelamangala, Bengaluru. The event brought together 250 youth from Jesuit mission stations across Karnataka, including Mundgod, Anekal, Bijapur, Sindagi, Manvi and Hangal with a theme Ujwala Bhavishyadedege’ (Towards a Bright Future). They were joined by Jesuit priests, animators, and social workers, whose guidance enriched the overall experience.
The programme was inaugurated by Fr. Daniel Fernandes, SJ the Vice President, BJES, Fr. Jerald D’Souza, SJ the Director of St Joseph’s Law College and Fr. Joel Fernandes SJ, the youth coordinator, marking the beginning of an inspiring event designed to empower youth. A key highlight of Yuva Milana was a series of engaging sessions by distinguished guest speakers. Actor and activist Chetan Kumar passionately spoke about the values of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the Indian Constitution, and the importance of reservation in promoting social justice. Transgender activist Akkai Padmashali delivered a heartfelt session on human rights, sharing her personal journey and the challenges she overcame. Lieutenant Bhavya Narasimhamurthy motivated participants with her insights on building a successful career, while Sanjay Mitra, Manager at ITC, offered valuable advice on career planning and job opportunities.
Throughout the event, Jesuit priests and social workers from various mission stations shared updates on their development initiatives, encouraging the youth to reflect on how they can contribute to their communities. Participants also engaged in group activities, sharing sessions, games, and nature meditation, fostering personal growth and camaraderie. As part of their commitment to ecological preservation, participants planted saplings, symbolizing their dedication to protecting and nurturing the environment.
Evening cultural performances provided a vibrant display of the youth’s talents, adding energy and creativity to the programme. The experience culminated in visits to Bengaluru’s iconic landmarks, including the ISKCON Temple, Chinnaswamy Stadium, Lalbagh Botanical Garden, and Cubbon Park, offering participants a blend of exploration, reflection, and cultural immersion.
Under the leadership of Fr. Joel Fernandes SJ and Fr. Jerald D’Souza SJ, and with the dedicated support of KJES Youth Animators, Yuva Milana was a resounding success. The event inspired participants to face future challenges with resilience, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose.
