On : 2024-10-10
The Karnataka Jesuit Youth Ministry, in collaboration with North Karnataka Youth Works, successfully hosted the second Magis program in Kalaburagi from October 10-12, 2024, at St. Xavier’s Campus. Following a successful event in Mundgod last year, this gathering attracted approximately 250 young pilgrims from North Karnataka under the theme "Creating a Hope-Filled Future." Originating in France in 1997, Magis has significantly impacted youth through its Five Pillars and Five Fillers.
Day 1 Highlights: The event commenced with a vibrant cultural procession welcoming distinguished guests, including Rev. Fr. Dionysius Vaz SJ, Provincial of Karnataka Jesuit Province; Most Rev. Dr. Robert Miranda, Bishop of Gulbarga; and several other Jesuit leaders. Bishop Miranda inaugurated the Magis home, showcasing various Jesuit ministries.
Fr. Dionysius Vaz officially opened Magis 2024, followed by an energetic flashmob by volunteers. A Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Vaz, who encouraged the youth to become beacons of hope in today’s chaotic world. The evening featured a cultural program celebrating the rich heritage of North Karnataka, culminating in group reflections during Magis circles and an examen prayer led by Br. Sohan Fernandes SJ.
Day 2 Highlights: The second day began with guided meditation, fostering a positive mindset among participants. Bishop Miranda led the Holy Mass, followed by inspiring testimonies from Geetha Sajjan Shetty and youth icon Shan Michael. Their stories of perseverance motivated attendees to overcome challenges. Praise and worship were facilitated by Fr. Vincent Pereira and his team, followed by a penitential service.
Fr. Vincent introduced an immersion outreach program, allowing participants to engage with the community and share their experiences. A Taizé prayer service, led by Fr. Joyson Vas SJ, provided a spiritual reflection, after which a lively campfire concluded the day with songs and activities.
Day 3 Highlights: The final day began with contemplation prayer and a nature mass celebrated by Fr. John Thomas SJ, emphasizing the importance of protecting God's creation. Testimonies from young entrepreneur Niel Santhosh and Dattu Agarwal, a blind school founder, inspired the pilgrims to pursue their goals relentlessly.
Fr. Maxim Misquith highlighted collaboration opportunities with the Jesuits in Bijapur and Gulbarga, followed by a prayer service for the deceased led by Fr. Joel Fernandes SJ. The event concluded with the last Magis circle, allowing participants to share their spiritual experiences.
Rev. Fr. Joyson Vas SJ and his team led the valedictory ceremony, thanking all pilgrims and recognizing the animators and volunteers for their dedication.
Magis 2024 was a remarkable three-day gathering that creatively uplifted the spiritual and apostolic aspirations of the youth, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.
