St. Anne’s Parish, Vijayapura

St. Anne’s Parish, Vijayapura (formerly Bijapur), is a joyful and faith-filled community that forms part of the Diocese of Gulbarga. Led by the Jesuit fathers, the parish is known not only for its historic St. Anne’s Church but also for its active role in education, social service, and pastoral care.

The parish celebrates its annual feast of St. Anne with great devotion and unity. In 2022, the celebration was made special by the presence of Most Rev. Robert Miranda, Bishop of Gulbarga, who administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to the young parishioners.

Beyond spiritual care, the Jesuit mission in Vijayapura works tirelessly for the upliftment of society. They run schools for children from migrant families, slum dwellers, and those affected by HIV, while also providing technical education to rural youth who have dropped out of school. The Jesuits are especially committed to the rehabilitation of Devadasis and commercial sex workers, ensuring their children receive proper education and a hopeful future. They also stand with the poor in securing basic amenities and create awareness about HIV/AIDS in the slums.

Today, St. Anne’s Parish is more than just a church—it is a family of faith, service, and compassion, walking together to spread the love of Christ in Vijayapura and beyond.
